Waylan C. Smith, age 86, of Bryant, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family.
Waylan’s strong faith was a cornerstone of his life; he found solace and community as a cherished member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Known for his meticulous nature, he took pride in his beautifully maintained yard and vehicles, often spending time cultivating his beloved gardens. After dedicating 33 years to Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga, Waylan treasured every moment spent with his family, drawing his greatest joy from their laughter and togetherness.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Dean Smith; his children, Jerry (Tracy) Smith, Eddie (Pam) Smith, Rodenna (Steve) Avans; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Curtis) Wright, Felicia (Bradley) Christopher, Kristina (Tyson) Welden, and Johnathon (Taneka) Smith; 7 great-grandchildren as well as his extended family and friends who will dearly miss him.
In addition to his parents, Clinton and Ila Corbin Smith, Waylan was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Watkins.
A funeral service to honor Waylan’s life and legacy will be held at 3:00 PM ET on Sunday, August 3rd at the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Dean Sims officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Bryant, AL.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 2nd from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET, and again on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the service hour.
