DADE COMMISSIONERS GIVE LOTS OF UPDATES AT APRIL 2025 MEETING

During the Dade County Commission Monthly Meeting on Thursday, April 3, 2025, the commissioners were busy with a lot of updates to discuss with the county, they went over an update regarding the animal control facility’s progress, discussed county inspections for February and March, went over Emergency Service’s stats for March, discussed ambulance updates, touched on glass recycling, discussed the Grand Re-opening of the Historic Courthouse, spoke about the volunteering with the Salvation Army, discussed the Eat and Greet, spoke on County Executive Townsend throwing the 1st pitch of the season, discussed the oral rabies vaccine bait drop in Dade County, talked on the joint meeting from last Thursday night, informed citizens about the temporary stop lights up at Hicks Hollow Bridge and Lake Hills Bridge, went over the financial report with the County Clerk, approved the Consent Agenda, and went into an Executive Session to speak on real estate before adjourning.

Commissioner Pullen offered an update on the progress of the Animal Control Facility. He stated, “the county has done great job.” He went on to inform everyone that 406 single-axle truck loads of dirt have been brought, and hay has been distributed on the slopes on the site of the future Animal Control Facility.

He put up the electrical inspection statistics for February and March 2025, on screen and explained that we would be seeing more people moving this way from the city of Chattanooga, as more and more people are coming from Chattanooga this way. A few minutes later in the meeting Commissioner Bradford referred back to the March 2025 electrical statistics briefly going over some and pondering over the car charger statistic wondering out loud if it was for an electric vehicle to which County Executive Townsend indicated it was.

Commissioner Pullen stated during the meeting that the county has three ambulances running, that another ambulance that the county has been totaled-out by the insurance company, and the other is getting a new motor installed and should be operational within a few days again. He then went over the Emergency Services Call Activity Statistics Report for March 2025.

Commissioner Pullen also wanted to inform the Dade residents that April 16, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. (Eastern) is the ribbon cutting for the Grand Re-opening of the Historical Dade County, Georgia Courthouse.

Commissioner Bradford spoke briefly about glass recycling person. She indicated that they are working to try and find the most economical recycling solution and encouraged citizens to keep an eye on the website for updates regarding this matter.

County Executive Townsend spoke about attending the Salvation Army Luncheon, and explained how the Salvation Army collects food for distribution and how they are active especially during the Winter months. He encouraged those who wish to volunteer to do so by calling the Trenton Methodist Church, and get in touch with Sharon and she will get you squared away with volunteer work with the Salvation Army.

County Executive Townsend also attended the March Eat and Greet that the Alliance For Dade held at the Historic Court House. Regarding the event he indicated that the event turned out great with around 40 to 45 people showing up. This event is supposed to become a regular event that happens around every 6 weeks or every month. County Executive Townsend encouraged citizens to check out Alliance For Dade’s website or call them to check on the details of this event, or to even be added to their mailing list.

He then talked about throwing the (ceremonial) 1st pitch of the season at the Dade County Sports Complex. He was proud it made it across the base air-born, and thanked Tobin Sapp for inviting him to throw the ceremonial pitch.

County Executive Townsend was also able to attended a fundraiser hosted by District Attorney Clayton Fuller at the McLemore. He also shared some exciting news that McLemore has now officially had a visitor from each of the 50 states in the United States, and 26 countries!

Next County Executive Townsend discussed having the joint board meeting last Thursday night with the City of Trenton, Industrial Development Authority (IDA), Dade County Board of Education, and the Water Authority Board. He indicated that the meeting was constructive and that each organization was able to speak about their top projects they are working on. Regarding the joint meeting he stated, “the top discussion points that evening probably were water and infrastructure.” County Executive Townsend indicated these type of joint meetings will continue to take place and said and gave a heads up letting others know that the next one should be around late September.

County Executive Townsend wanted to communicate with the residents of the county that there are temporary stop lights up at Hicks Hollow Bridge and Lake Hills Bridge due to construction that is going on under the bridge.

He also went over the Oral Vaccine Rabies Bait Drop that is happening in Dade County from April 7th – April 15th. He wanted to reassure if you see helicopters and a bunch of low flying planes during this time period that this is what is taking place there is no need to worry.

After the financials were gone over the County Clerk, Mrs. Knight asked to read aloud the items for consideration on Consent Agenda from tonight’s workshop meeting by County Executive Townsend to which she did.

The Consent Agenda was approved by the commission.

Once the Consent Agenda was approved County Executive Townsend indicated that the commission was going to need to go into an Executive Session during the meeting to discuss real estate.

Commissioner Bradford made a motion to enter into Executive Session with Commissioner Pullen seconding her motion. All three commissioners voted in favor of entering into Executive Session. At that time the commissioners retired into an Executive Session to discuss real estate for nearly an hour before adjourning the meeting.
