Newman Elwood Slatton age 78 of Henagar, Alabama died Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at his residence. Funeral services are Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 12 Noon CT at Corner Stone Funeral Chapel with Bro. Gary Holcomb and Bro. Billy Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Henagar Community Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 am until service time.
Newman was born November 7, 1946 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to parents Nolan Edward and Louise Stalvey Slatton. He began a police career of 20 plus years serving first at Hammondville, AL., and then on to serve as Chief of Police for the town of Ider and the City of Henagar. He owned and operated an Auto Body Repair and Auto Glass businesses for several years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Ider Ashlar Lodge and had been a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He had served as a member of the Henagar City Council.
Survivors include his son, Andy Slatton(Trina), grandchildren, Brandon Slatton, Alyson Strickland(Sennett), Paige Slatton, Sarah Slatton, great-grandson, Xavier Slatton, brothers, Rodney Slatton(Gina), and Dewitt Slatton. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Eric Slatton.
