Joe Blackwell

Joseph David “Joe” Blackwell age 90 of Henagar, Alabama died Monday, September 8, 2025 at his residence. As per his wishes no services will be held.

Joe was born February 23, 1935 in Pickens County, Georgia to parents, William Coleman and Callie Mae Poole Blackwell. Upon completion of high school in Cherokee County, Georgia, he entered the US Army where he served for ten years. He obtained the rank of Sargent during the Korean War. After service he settled in Alaska where he worked as an Oil Platform Foreman for ARCO/BP Alaska until retiring in 1985. While in Alaska he was a member of Elks Lodge # 2425. He and Darlene traveled for several years across the United States making friends along the way. He was a gifted cook and shared his talent at many different events across the country. He settled in Henagar, Alabama in 2011 and quickly made friends with his new neighbors. He continued to reconnect with friends from many different states as they ventured off on cross country trips from time to time. “He was selected as a member of the Arizona Fiddler’s Association Hall of Fame and never played as instrument, but he sure was a good cook.”

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Darlene Colton Blackwell, children, Margaret Fleming Buchanan, William Alan Blackwell, Tina Roe(Bob), Joel Vinsant(Julie), grandchildren, Jacob Fleming(Morgan), Sara Hamrick(Justin), Caity Blackwell, Charlie Kory(Austin), Lee Roe(Ashley), Emmy Vinsant, Jessie Wheeler(Andy), Joel “LJ” Vinsant Jr.(Vicky) and 15 great-grandchildren.
