Howard Richard “Dick” Swank III age 81 of Young Harris, Georgia died Friday, September 12, 2025 at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, Georgia. A Memorial service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Corner Stone Funeral Chapel in Ider, Alabama at 12 Noon CT with military honors. His family will receive friends from 11 am until service time.
Dick was born December 22, 1943 in Daytona Beach, Florida to parents, Howard Richard Jr. and Lois Estelle Dingman Swank. He was a 1961 graduate of Redlands High School in Homestead, Florida. He joined the US Navy as a machinist and served from 1962 until 1968 where he was awarded the National Defense Medal. After settling in Georgia he worked many years as a reel operator in the movie theater. He loved Nascar, sci-fi movies and exploring the mountains.
Survivors include son, Ricky Swank, daughter, Julie Swank, granddaughter, Kristina, sister, Sandy Swank Wells(Jim). He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Swank Kimball, father, Howard Richard Swank Jr., wife of 36 years, Marie Swank and son, Andy.
