Ira “Bear” York

Ira “Bear” York, 80, of Trenton, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 9, 2026 at his home.

Mr. York was a graduate of Kirkman Technical High School in Chattanooga and was employed as an electrician for Combustion Engineering for 33 years. For ten years, in a Co-Op with Seaboard Farms, he owned and operated chicken houses, then became the owner of Crossroads Hardware for 21 years. An avid hunter & gardener, “Bear” was a long-standing member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and later, attended Bryant Baptist Tabernacle. He was also a founding member of the Davis Volunteer Fire Department and was a strong family man, husband, father & grand-father. Mr. York was preceded in death by his parents, Bamer & Eula Crane York, brothers, O.L. York, James Arnold York, and two infant brothers.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 60 years, Ella Godfrey York; children, Tina (Mark) Griffin of Elberta, AL, Casey (Kristy) York, James (Faith) York, & Jason (Valerie) York, all of Trenton, GA; grandchildren, Anna Griffin, Alex Buckner, Shelby Buckner, Corbin (Kara) York, Taryn York, Myah York, Logan York, Noah York, Ambreigh York, Dallas (Brianna) York, Isaac York, Alexis York, Hannah York, & Hailey York; brother, Kenneth York; his four-legged friend, “Rex” or better known as “Turkey.”

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13th at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Shane Cloud & Bro. Wayne Winters officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South in Rossville, GA. Online condolences may be shared at ryanfuneralhome.net.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 12th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the service hour at Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory, Trenton, GA.
