Ernest Martin “Marty” Gass, 68, of Trenton, GA, lovingly known as “Bones,” passed away on October 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on October 4, 1957, and grew up to become a man known for his hard work, generosity, and kind heart. Marty worked for the state for several years before discovering his true passion — being a mechanic on vehicles. In 2001, he and his best friend, Jimmy Plumlee, found their love for square-body Mustangs and racing. Even after he was no longer able to race himself, Marty stayed involved by helping others find success on the track. He never missed a race and was always there to lend a helping hand, a word of advice, or a little encouragement. He would drop everything to help someone in need and would give you the shirt off his back if it meant you’d do better. His heart for others and willingness to give made him loved by everyone who knew him. Marty enjoyed classic rock, time spent with his family, and especially being with his grandbabies — they were his pride and joy.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Margaret Gass, brother, Marshall Gass and sister, Martha Ashley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dottie Turner Gass; his siblings, Doug (Darlene) Gass and Marilyn (Roy) Morgan; and his children, Nicole (Jay) Boyd, Felicia (Brad) McDowell, Johnny (Cassy) Turner, Sandy (Lance) Browne, Timmy (Sherri) Turner, and Patricia Helsel. He also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry his love and lessons with them always. Many cousins, aunts, uncles and countless friends are also left to cherish his memory. Marty touched the lives of countless people in his small town. His legacy of love, loyalty, and kindness will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 27th at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Lilly & Bro. Billy Jo Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Trenton Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26th from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory, Trenton, GA.
