Marie Conkle

Carolyn Marie Conkle, known lovingly as “Marie,” passed away peacefully at her home in Bryant, Alabama on April 19, 2025, at the age of 82.

Born on November 5, 1942, Marie was a kind and caring soul whose warmth touched everyone who knew her. She was best known for her loving heart, her famous dill pickles, blueberry dumplins, and coconut cake, and her deep devotion to her family.

Marie found joy in the simple things—working in her yard, shopping, traveling, going out to eat, and especially spending time with her great-great-nieces, Ella and Lilah, who brought her endless happiness. Family was the center of her life, and she took every opportunity to surround herself with those she loved. She was a member of Bryant Holiness Church and attended faithfully whenever she was able.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Hodge; sisters, Sue Branham and Joann Smith; brothers, Bill (Della) Sampson and Randy Sampson; granddaughter, Rebecca (Jeremy) Holloway; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Malcolm Conkle; her parents, Tommy and Pluma Sampson; and her brother, Harold Sampson.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM ET on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Evan Whited officiating. She will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Memorial Park following the service.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM ET at the funeral home, and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the service hour.

Marie’s legacy of love, generosity, and sweet Southern hospitality will live on in the hearts of those who had the blessing of knowing her.
