Alma “Susie” Poore, known as “Nanny” to many, 84, of Wildwood, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on October 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Susie was born at home in Trenton, Georgia, on December 7, 1940, to Woodrow and Ruby Massengale. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Massengale.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Ernest Poore, Jr.; her sisters, Geneva Millholland and Shirley Hartline; and sister-in-law, Wilma Massengale.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Rocky Jones; her daughter, Carol Henson (Tim); her grandsons, Matt Henson (Julianna) and Zach Henson (Ashton); and her honorary granddaughters, Katie McGlamery (JR), April Angle, and Choya Banks (Ben). She is also remembered by William Burrell (Glenda), who held a special place in her heart, as well as her stepchildren, Michael Poore and Teresa Huddleston.
Susie spent the majority of her life in Wildwood, Georgia. During her working years, she was a skilled sewing machine operator, known for her craftsmanship and attention to detail. Beyond her work, her true calling was her faith and her family. She was a devoted member of North Georgia Worship Center, where she joyfully served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Susie loved sewing, camping, tending to her flowers, and—above all—spending time caring for her grandsons. Her warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering love brought comfort and joy to everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Visitation will be held at Ryan Funeral Home on Monday, October 27, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, October 28, at 1:00 p.m. EST, with visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in Hooker Cemetery following the service.
Heaven truly gained a good one. Susie will forever hold a special place in all our hearts.
